What role did film play in America’s rise to nuclear hegemony? Beginning with the products of a previously secret Air Force film studio, our project explores film as a crucial instrument in American nuclear science and policy, and explores certain iconography within government films as evidence of a State’s struggles with the Bomb’s moral weight. Our efforts include historical and theoretical research, as well as a new annotated archive of the films – an innovative interface that also presents an argument about an elusive archive of state power.
